FAQ

can you see out of state clients?

At this time I can see clients located in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Maryland.

Who should consider going to counseling?

Anyone who is feeling stressed, worried, confused, uncertain, or just wants to talk through a change in their life could benefit from counseling. We all have times where we need to talk through our lives with an objective third party who can listen without judgment. No problem is too big or small.

What is an intake session?

The first counseling session. It’s designed for me to get to know you and understand what brought you to counseling. The session lasts about 75 minutes and we’ll talk about your background, personal history, and any problems you want to discuss.

What does a “normal” counseling session look like?

Each session will last about 50 minutes and will cover whatever topics you want to discuss. As the counselor, I will follow your lead and tailor the session to fit your specific wants and needs.

how does virtual counseling differ from in-person sessions?

Virtual counseling is done online using a secure video conferencing website to talk. Although it gained traction during the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual counseling remains a safe and convenient way to meet and make progress together.

Is everything i tell my counselor confidential?

Yes. When you come to counseling, one of the first things we go over are your rights to confidentiality. Everything you tell your counselor is confidential and they are not allowed to relay the information to anyone else with a few exceptions that your counselor will clearly go over with you at the time of your appointment. If you are under the age of 18, you will also need your parent’s permission to attend counseling.

how long and how frequently do people normally go to counseling?

How often you come to counseling is completely up to you. Some clients have a standing appointment once a week, once every other week, or once a month while other clients only come in as often as they feel is needed. Some clients feel they only need a few sessions to meet their goals while others utilize therapy as a lifelong helping tool. Ultimately, frequency of sessions and time spent in counseling is up to the client.
